How to send Pictures via Whatsapp without losing its Image Quality- Android Users!

Ever noticed that photos sent via Whatsapp are not as clear as the original photo in your gallery? This post is a must learn for you!

Whatsapp uses servers and servers in a lame man's understanding are basically computers specially built to never go off. They are quite expensive to purchase and cost a lot to maintain. Almost everything on the internet today operate thanks to servers. If they go off, the service of which the server was made for will also go off.

Images come in sizes and resolution. The resolution has to do with the amount of pixels in the height and width of the image, the better the resolution the bigger the size most often. A sure sign of knowing an image resolution has a good resolution is by zooming in on the image. Very good resolutions should be quite clear after zooming. That doesn't mean zoomed in images should be very clear. At least they should be clear to some extent.

Now, this is what happens when you try to send for example an image on whatsapp. After selecting the image and you tap send, the image is then uploaded onto their server (Whatsapp) for storage and retrieval by recipient. Once its done, the recipient is then notified then the recipient downloads it from whatsapp servers. What whatsapp does before it gets onto their servers is compression. Why compression? Compression helps Whatsapp save money on upgrading their servers. If Whatsapp were to allow everyone to send images at thier original quality, whatsapp might end up loosing than gaining hence incurring additional cost on their servers. By compression, Whatsapp is able to reduce the size of the image which helps them save space for more images but on the users side it affects the resolution of the image hence a smaller size of file (image). That explains why images are smaller in size when recieved than sent. To send an image on Whatsapp without loosing its original resolution, you do the usual from the chat but instead of tapping Image after tapping the paperclip icon, you tap Document. Whatsapp in their development of their app did not include compression to the Document button since documents cannot be really compressed. So after choosing Document, you are then showed a file manager. From there, you navigate to where the photo is and send.

It sends the image as the way it is originally. No reduction in size. No reduction in resolution.

Try comparing seding a photo on whatsapp through the Image button and the Document button and you will see the difference in both size and quality.

I hope this knowledge was useful. Please help someone to understand by sharing. Thank you!
